‘Disgo Zoom Disco gdg/feat. Owain Glyndŵr’ at Green Man Festival (22 August)

Light, Ladd & Emberton’s revolutionary Disgo Distaw Owain Glyndŵr Silent Disco will be reimagined as a live Disgo Zoom Disco - an online lockdown special from home - as part of the Green Man festival Field of Streams online on 22 August 2020.

For the last three years Disgo Distaw Owain Glyndŵr Silent Disco has transported audiences through a unique Welsh history lesson, told through a silent disco experience, which has toured castles across Wales; UK festivals and even been held in front of the Welsh Senedd (parliament) in Cardiff Bay during the national Eisteddfod 2018. The 2020 lockdown version will deliver the same plot, but audiences will be able to really reimagine what life would have been like in their own castle siege during lockdown.

Disgo Zoom Disco gdg/feat. Owain Glyndŵr as part of Green Man’s online festival on 22 August, will retain the hallmarks of the original Silent Disco, but with a virtual live and interactive audience experience from their own home.

This is a silent disco like no other - in which audiences dance the rebellion of the last Welsh prince of Wales. It's 1399 and Owain Glyndŵr, the legendary rebel Prince of Wales, has disappeared without a trace. Audiences discover his destiny on the virtual dancefloor, with a DJ mixing club classics, punk hits and pop anthems. Experience the high and lows of the uprising, with fierce twmpath, dance-offs, sieges, betrayals, and defections. Immerse yourself in Welsh history but with a twist.

Performed bilingually, audiences will be able to see other audiences members dance along to power ballads and anthems from Donna Summer to Tame Impala, Blondie to The Sex Pistols, as well as music from Welsh artists Gwenno and Ifan Dafydd while immersed in the historical events of Wales.

Created by Deborah Light, Eddie Ladd and Gwyn Emberton and produced by Laura H Drane, Disgo Distaw Owain Glyndwr Silent Disco was commissioned by Visit Wales in 2017, for the UNESCO World Heritage castles of north Wales, being nominated for a Tourism Business Innovation award. In 2019 it was part of the UK dance showcase, Surf The Wave, and there were plans for it tour across the UK and internationally until COVID-19.

Director Gwyn Emberton said, “Disgo Zoom Disco is a remake of our Silent Disco about Wales’ last war of independence, led by Owain Glyndŵr. We have reimagined it for 2020. Audiences will still dance the rebellion led by our masters of ceremony, the wonderful brother and sister duo Eddie Ladd (real name, Gwenith Owen)  and Roger Owen. The story is told through a heady mix of club and dance classics, some awesome Welsh electro and indie and some fun led-dance moments. It is really a joy to be able to bring this show back to life for Green Man Festival. Now, let’s all get down and reimagine revolution from our living rooms.”

Disgo Zoom Disco gdg/feat. Owain Glyndŵr will be a part of Green Man’s Online Festival - Field of Streams on 22 August 2020 3pm and 7pm. Tickets for the interactive audience experience where you will be in a Zoom environment are free and available from Green Man/ EventBrite. There is limited capacity.
